SGI Ingénierie

Core business

SGI Ingénierie SA Luxembourg is an engineering consultancy located in Luxembourg. Founded in 1966, SGI Ingénierie SA Luxembourg has gained wide experience in project design and management in the fields of:

  • Building engineering
  • Structural engineering (reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, timber, steel)
  • Building Services engineering (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing engineering) Civil Engineering
  • Infrastructure design (roads and railways, energy distribution, waste management infrastructure)
  • Bridge and transportation engineering (Bridges, viaducts, tunnels,…)

SGI Luxembourg is part of SGI Consulting, a Luxembourgish holding of several European engineering consultancies (Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Switzerland) and subsidiaries in several African countries (Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Senegal,…). The SGI group has been developing for more than 50 years an important export activity, mainly on the African continent.

Products & services

SGI engineers deploy their skills in three main activities:

  • civil engineering,
  • building engineering,
  • environment, water and energy.

Civil engineering Changes in means of transportation and their infrastructure imply the integration of new requirements directly at the concept and design stages. This is why SGI becomes totally involved in transport infrastructure projects to ensure that beyond their durable quality, they completely fulfil their social, functional and economic roles. Experienced, skilled and always seeking cost efficient solutions, SGI engineers contribute their expertise as consultants to project clients and works managers, as well as by running studies and offering total project implementation.

Our "Civil Engineering" projects cover very large areas ranging from structural works to roads and railways, and also include power distribution, development of brownfield sites and municipal infrastructure. Those services include designing construction projects during the various design stages, preparation and submission of tenders, site monitoring until completion and acceptance of the works, etc. Building engineering What makes SGI unique is that we integrate all engineering trades relating to structures, energy building concepts, MEP building services (i.e. Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, Plumbing, Electricity, BMS,…) and site monitoring in a global approach. We do as much work on new build projects as on rehabilitation for the public sector and private clients in Luxembourg, Europe, the Maghreb and West Africa. The total commitment of our staff enables us to provide customised services by deploying our human resources for large scale projects and dedicating specialist teams to atypical missions.

Our "Building engineering" projects include the building's stability and building services: the design in the various design stages, preparation and submission of tenders, site monitoring until completion and acceptance of the works, including health and safety coordination. As for the structural engineering, structures in reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, timber, metal, steel-concrete or timber-concrete composite, etc. are designed, including specialist aspects, such as seismic behaviour, restoration techniques for historic buildings,… Environmental, water, energy The SGI Group started with Water, Environment and Energy engineering.

SGI Group was founded in 1898 in Switzerland when hydro-electric power was invented. Since then, SGI has implemented many energy-related projects all over the world and extended its corporate skills to urban hydraulics, the environment and the whole water cycle. Our skills range from process and equipment definition to civil engineering design. The SGI Group has been awarded many certificates for sustainable development quality, including BREEAM, Passive House, DGNB, etc.

Major CleanTech projects

Ecoinnovation is part of our daily engineering work: for each project, especially in building services, we analyse all possible innovative solutions, e.g. :

  • Heat recovery (with Heat Pumps) on District water treatment station
  • Heat recovery (with Heat Pumps) on ice storage
  • Heat recovery (with Heat Exchanger) on waste water
  • Biomass heating systems for District Heating
  • Thermal solar solutions for warm water
  • Photovoltaic

Another example of an outstanding Ecoinnovation project is the Genilac project in Geneva, which consists in supplying water from Lake Geneva for air-conditioning and heating in various parts of the canton of Geneva. The concept of the Genilac project consists in conveying lake water to heat exchangers (to generate cold in the summer) and heat pumps (production of heat in winter) and then releasing the water into the Rhône or near the pumping station.
